Students roaming on the campus of Niagara University (NU) are always willing to talk about anything. Today, the consensus was out about students' feelings, or lack of, for the sport of tennis. Hear is what they said:

Name: Krysta Daniels

Major: Biology

Occupation: Student

Class: Freshman

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

Yes, I love to play tennis. I am actually on Niagara’s tennis team this year. Although I don’t travel with the team, I am having so much fun learning and meeting the girls.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

“The love of the game.”

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

I check the NU tennis website regularly to see how the girl’s team is doing. I am friends with all the girls and they are all so talented in their own way on the tennis court. I also love talking to them about campus life and schoolwork. The coach is great too.

Name: Stephanie Pabon

Major: English / Communications

Occupation: Student

Class: Junior

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

I do enjoy playing tennis. I find that every time I play, I get a great workout plus the game is fun. I try to find the time to get a game in every now and then during the school year, as well as getting in a hit or two over the summer. I also try to improve my game by participating in tennis clinics back home.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

“My arms are killing me!”

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

Unless I see a tennis player as Niagara’s athlete of the week, I don’t follow tennis here at college. I actually don’t follow sports here at Niagara at all because I don’t care. I would rather go for a workout or join a club to stay busy.

Name: Kayla Boykin

Major: Psychology

Occupation: Student

Class: Freshman

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

I like to watch tennis, but I don’t like to play because I don’t have the arm-hand coordination. The task of hitting a ball over the net is harder than you think.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

Strength and speed. Players need to be strong and powerful to move from side to side but also agile enough to get to every ball on the court.

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

I don’t follow tennis here at NU. I don’t know anyone from the team so I wouldn’t know that NU even had varsity tennis. But I do follow basketball because I enjoy watching and playing the game more than tennis. Basketball is more exciting.

Name: Jenele Cooper-Rankin

Major: Computer Studies

Occupation: Student

Class: Junior

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

I do play tennis. I find that tennis is great exercise and it gives me the chance for my friends and I to get out, get physical and take in some sun as well. Unfortunately, I don’t keep score when we play leisurely [laugh].

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

The first adjective that comes to my mind is when players yell, “Out!” And then you see the professionals get really angry at the line judges…..that is when tennis gets exciting.

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

No, I don’t follow tennis because I am so busy with work. But when I do have time, I will actually try to go see one of the matches.

Name: Valerie Devine

Major: Business (MBA)

Occupation: Student

Class: Graduate Student

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

I like to play tennis, but now that school has started I don’t get to play very often. Most of the time I don’t play because I'm simply not very good at it. If I was good at tennis, I probably would play more often because I would have more fun instead of getting frustrated.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

The first thing that comes to my mind is, “I see a yellow ball being hit over the net.”

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

No, I don’t follow the progress of the tennis teams. I do like to play tennis in my spare time but I just can't sit down and watch a whole tennis match because I find it too boring.

Name: Ben Hathaway

Major: Finance (MBA)

Occupation: Logistics

Class: Graduate Student

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

Overall, I like the sport of tennis. I used to play tennis when I was younger because it kept me active.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

Tennis calls for a good time with friends to go out and hit a ball over a net when there is simply nothing else to do on campus.

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

I used to follow the progress of Niagara’s men’s tennis team when I was an undergraduate student. My roommate was on the team for four years, so he kept me up-to-date as to when they were going on road trips or playing home games.

Name: Renee Arena
Major: Business

Occupation: Student

Class: Freshman

Do you like or play tennis? Why or why not?

I occasionally play tennis but I definitely don’t watch it. I love to play tennis so I can get outdoors and get some sun. Also, it's easy to keep score so I could learn and follow the rules easily.

What is the first adjective or phrase that comes to mind when I say tennis?

The first thing that comes to my mind is that tennis is easy exercise and I can build a good sweat.

Do you follow the tennis teams’ progress here at Niagara University (NU)? Why or why not?

No, I don’t follow the progress of either the men’s or women’s tennis teams. Actually, I didn’t even know that NU had a team [laugh].
